Fans of the Trail Fox who wanted a little more structure, support, and cushioning for longer runs may find the answer in the aX-Alps, especially the XCR model.The aX-Alps, designed with the Transalpine-Run in mind (see "Hit the Trails"), are ideal for crossing the Alps on foot, combining running and fast-walking with a light pack over miles of rocky ascents and descents.The aX-Alps are bolstered with plastic overlays, heel support,a Lycra sock construction to help keep debris from penetrating the collar, and a forefoot protection plate that offered our testers plenty of bone-bruise shielding.The outsole was plenty grippy and the IdCELL heel cushioning made for a comfortable ride.One tester found the pointy toe a bit aggravating, but not to the extent that it created any hot spots.
